The majority of commercial guinea pig cages are far too small to accommodate a single pig, not to mention a pair of same-sex cavies or a small same-sex herd. One way to provide ample space for your guinea pig, is to build your own habitat. See www.guineapigcages.com for details on how to make your own "cube and coroplast" (C&C) cage. This Little Piggie Marketplace highly recommends Kleenmama's Hayloft for hay and premium pellets. In our experience, the type of calcium used in other brands of pellets (calcium carbonate) and the higher amounts of calcium used in the majority of other commercial brands, tend to cause or worsen sludge and stone problems in many guinea pigs who are prone to those issues. Other owners have also noticed significant improvement in their sludge pigs when fed Kleenmama over other brands.
